Here's how students like Iris become competitive for selective schools without burning out:

PHASE 1

Clarify Your Core Values

Most teens don't know their core values. They make decisions based on what looks impressive rather than what matters to them. When you clarify your values, you can make decisions that recharge your batteries instead of draining them. You stop trying to copy everyone else and start building something authentic.

This is the foundation everything else builds on.

PHASE 2

Create an Impact Project

Find something in your community that violates your core values. Then work to solve it. For Iris, this was writing a gender-neutral economics textbook. For other students, it's been:

  • Designing drone interceptors to protect civilians in Ukraine

  • Partnering with manufacturers to provide free EpiPens to underserved communities

  • Creating programs that teach civil discourse across political differences

  • Conducting original cancer research and teaching other students how to collaborate with researchers

These projects are memorable because they're authentic. They answer both questions: who you are and why it matters.

PHASE 3

Tell Your Story Strategically

Once you have clarity and evidence, you need to communicate it effectively:

  • Train your teachers to write compelling recommendation letters

  • Build relationships with admissions officers before you apply

  • Write essays that showcase your theme without trying to impress

  • Present your activities in a way that tells a coherent story

This is where most students fail. They have good stories but don't know how to tell them.
